NOW HIRING: BAKERY CHEF

We’re The Boat Shed Bakery, where buttery treats meet lakeside bliss. Tucked beside the Frankton Track, we’re the grab-and-go spot fuelling locals, weekend walkers, and anyone chasing a proper coffee and pastry hit. We craft small-batch pastry using traditional methods. Think flaky croissants, melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon buns, unbeatable breakfast rolls, and choux that disappears faster than your willpower.

We’re all about modern artisan baking with a whole lot of cheek, served with a side of uninterrupted Lake Whakatipu views. Honestly, it’s the best office in the world.

We look after our people. That means proper training, clear expectations, a crew that backs each other, and perks that actually matter: a strong remuneration package, free health insurance (where eligible), and discounts across our venues (The Boat Shed Cafe, Canyon Brewing and Dishery).

If you care about quality, move with urgency, and know how to create food people come back for, you’ll fit right in.

Enough about us, here’s a bit about your new role.

Your day will involve:

• Leading our sandwich programme, from prep and production through to final assembly and presentation

• Creating sandwiches that look sharp, eat well, and consistently hit the standard our customers know us for

• Working across both back-of-house prep and customer-facing service, assembling sandwiches during busy periods and interacting with customers throughout the day

• Supporting the bakery team with prep and production where needed, particularly during busy service periods

• Managing ingredient prep, stock rotation, labelling, and food safety with care and attention to detail

• Keeping the kitchen and sandwich station clean, organised, and running smoothly

• Working closely with the wider team to maintain consistency, speed, and flow across the bakery

You will bring:

• Experience in a professional kitchen at Chef de Partie level or similar

• Strong food prep and service skills, with a good eye for flavour, quality, and presentation

• Confidence working in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment

• Great communication skills and the ability to bring positive energy to both the kitchen and the front counter

• Strong organisation and time management, especially during busy service periods

• Solid understanding of food hygiene, kitchen systems, and day-to-day operational standards

• A hands-on attitude and willingness to jump in wherever needed

Let’s make it official.
