We were named small business of the year

A little while back, The Boat Shed Bakery was named small business of the year at the 2degrees Queenstown business awards, and we’re still riding the high.

We’ve been quietly proud ever since. Ok, not that quietly.

Why it meant so much

Queenstown is full of businesses doing things properly, with a lot of grit and a lot of heart. The awards had 154 entries this year, and the independent judging panel (led by Dr John Guthrie MNZM) spoke about the quality and depth across the region. To be recognised in that field felt huge.

What we’ve been building

We opened in 2024 with a simple plan: bake the good stuff, pour great coffee, and make “just one” a very optimistic choice. We’re big on quality ingredients, local suppliers, and pastries that look as good as they taste.

Think small-batch pastry, fresh breads, and a cabinet that keeps moving. Add lake views at Frankton Marina with the Frankton Track right outside, and it becomes a pretty great Queenstown ritual.

More than a bakery

The best part has been what’s grown around it.

The run club. The collaborations. The regulars who know their order before they even reach the counter. The visitors who “just popped in” and then come back the next day for round two.

It’s turned into something that feels bigger than pastry. Still very much about pastry, though.
