Seen the signs about the Frankton Track being closed and felt the panic rise in your belly that your favourite bakery might be affected? Fear not. The Boat Shed Bakery is still easy to reach, and the detour is very straightforward.
The Frankton Track closure, in plain English
The Frankton Track is undergoing major works through 2026, so the usual lakeside route (from town) isn’t fully accessible. The good news is the detour is super simple!
We’re at Queenstown Marina in Frankton, and we’re very much open. Coffee’s brewed lakeside daily, pastry’s coming out fresh, and yes, the view still does the heavy lifting.
Walking from town to The Boat Shed Bakery (detour route)
If you’re walking from central Queenstown, this is the easiest way while the Track works are on:
Head towards Frankton Road and follow the footpath on the roadside.
Stick to the sealed footpath along Frankton Road (this is the detour).
Follow signage towards the marina/Frankton.
Once you reach the marina area, keep heading waterfront-side and you’ll find us in the coloured boat sheds, closest to the boat ramp.
Cycling to the bakery
Biking in is still easy. The detour route along Frankton Road works well on two wheels too.
Driving to The Boat Shed Bakery
Driving is simple, especially if you’re coming from Frankton, Arrowtown, or anywhere outside central Queenstown.
Parking: There’s marina parking right out front, and it’s ideal if you’re doing a quick pop-in for takeaway coffee and pastry. If you’re coming at peak times (think sunny weekends and holiday periods), allow a little extra time.
Getting here by public transport
You can reach the Frankton area by bus and then walk the final stretch into the marina. If you’re unsure which stop is best on the day, the easiest move is to jump off near Frankton and follow the marina signs from there.
Water taxis (yes, you can arrive by boat)
If you want the scenic option, you can also arrive by water taxi into the marina area. It’s a fun way to do it, especially if you’re making a morning of it.
Tip: water taxi routes and times can change seasonally, so check in with your preferred operator on the day.
