You love the craft. The precision. The quiet of early mornings and the rush when trays hit the cabinet just as the coffee queue forms. If that sounds like you, you’ll feel right at home at The Boat Shed Bakery - our lakeside home where flaky layers, creamy choux, and crusty loaves do the talking.
 

Everything is made properly, from scratch, with seasonal ingredients and zero shortcuts. Your work won’t just live in our cabinet either - we bake daily for our wider group (The Boat Shed Café, Canyon Brewing, and soon, Dishery in Arrowtown), so the treats you make will be enjoyed all over town.
 

A week in your apron:
 

Early starts, ovens humming, and a view you’ll never get tired of: uninterrupted Lake Whakatipu and Remarkable mountains right outside your window. You’ll roll, laminate, and proof before most of Queenstown wakes up. Midweek means testing a seasonal tart idea or nailing the lamination on a new run of croissants. Weekends move fast - shelves empty, you reset, and there’s that kind of pride that comes from making food people actually rave about. Honestly? It might just be the best office in the world (if we say so ourselves).
 

In your day-to-day, you’ll:
 

  • Mix, shape, and bake breads that hold their own.

  • Turn out laminated pastries with beautiful layers.

  • Pipe, whip, and temper: choux, creams, ganache, cakes - all the indulgent stuff.

  • Keep the bake space clean, organised, and food-safe.

  • Collaborate with the Café and Restaurant teams to meet daily orders.


You’ll thrive here if you:
 

  • Have a couple of years’ of hands-on experience baking from scratch.

  • Are confident across both bread and pastry.

  • Stay calm under pressure, with an eye for detail and consistency.

  • Bring good, positive energy to every shift.

  • Are reliable, tidy, team-first and proud of your work.
