Now Hiring: Bakery Assistant
QUEENSTOWN Marina, Queenstown
You’ve been ready for a change, and for you, baking has always been more than a hobby - it’s how you create, share, and some even call it your love language. If you’re ready to turn your fixation into something bigger, your new role is right here: early mornings, hands-on craft, and the chance to learn the ropes in a bakery where everything is made from scratch, with no shortcuts and plenty of butter.
You don’t need years of experience, just the basics - how to use a scale, how ovens work, and a willingness to learn. Bonus points if you’ve worked in a kitchen or bakery before. What matters most is that you bring energy, reliability, and a love of good food (and don’t mind a bit of flour on your clothes).
A week in your apron:
Early starts, ovens humming, and a view you’ll never get tired of: Lake Whakatipu glassy and still, the Remarkables right outside your window. You’ll assist with daily baking prep and production - laminating, mixing, and shaping before most of Queenstown wakes up. Midweek means helping test a seasonal tart or keeping the kitchen humming. Weekends move fast - shelves empty, trays refill, and there’s a quiet satisfaction in knowing you helped bake the food people line up for. Honestly? It might just be the best office in the world (if we say so ourselves).
In your day-to-day, you’ll:
-
Assist with baking prep and production (bread, pastries, and plenty of butter)
-
Keep the kitchen space clean, organised, and food-safe
-
Pack, display, and rotate stock so it always looks (and tastes) its best
-
Serve customers confidently and share the love of what you helped bake
-
Support the team and pick up new skills as you go
You’ll thrive here if you:
-
Have basic baking knowledge (scales, ovens, the fundamentals)
-
Bring a positive attitude and willingness to learn
-
Don’t mind early mornings - the magic happens before sunrise
-
Are reliable, tidy, and comfortable in a fast-paced team
-
Are friendly and confident with customers
What you’ll love:
On-the-job training means you’ll keep growing your baking and customer service skills, backed by a small, supportive crew who actually look out for each other. You’ll enjoy staff discounts across our wider group - The Boat Shed Café, Canyon Brewing, and soon Dishery in Arrowtown - plus health insurance where eligible.
Hours are daytime (with weekends included, since that’s when we’re busiest), and your “office” comes with uninterrupted views of Lake Whakatipu, the Remarkables on the horizon, and a brand-new bakery at the centre of it all.
If you’re keen to learn, willing to get stuck in, and ready to roll your career forward, flick us your CV and a quick note about yourself (bonus points if you include your go-to pastry).
